The Initiate

Of all the professions of the world the priestess caste is the most influential. To be a priestess is to serve the Goddess directly. Though the warrior caste would beg to differ. They are the protectors of the world and therefore the protectors of the Goddess. All over her world little girls dream of becoming a priestess while little boys wish to be warriors. It is not uncommon for parents of the lesser castes to scrimp and save all they can in order to get at least one of their children into what they be leave is a better life.

Triss, a priestess of the blue watches as one such child is excepted as an initiate. Or that is to say she watches Cora, priestess of the orange mentoring her sister as her new apprentice. Cora and her sister Pasha come from the pottery caste. Their parents must have nearly starved themselves to save the cost of apprenticeship. Once one was in the other was sure to follow. The temple should have accepted the youngest daughter and left Cora turning pots with her family. Well who was she to judge. She herself came from even lower stock. Her parents were night soil collectors. She never did know how they ever got her into the service of the Goddess.

Triss was watching her own apprentice, Samar priestess of the green conduct the ritual. Cora certainly has some back bone to approach a green and ask her to judge an initiate when all she needed was three whites. At least she was more appropriate in getting a yellow and a white as the other two judges.  Looking at the other priestesses who came to watch, Triss didn't see Cora's mentor. She should be here though it isn't necessary. Seeing a movement Triss leaned back to see around a pillar. Ah that was why. Cora's mentor is Helin priestess of the purple and she has a daughter who will tested any time now. A daughter who has snuck away from her classes to watch her friend. Motioning to a yellow to find Helin and let her know her daughter is at the ceremony.
